I tend to like books that look glossy until you realize they are quietly cutting. Yuppies sounds like it may work that angle well.
A novel about status, appetite, and self-delusion can go very right when the writer keeps the sentences clean and the judgment sharp.
If this one does that, I can see it being the kind of contemporary novel that stays in my head longer than something louder would.
